Meet the Dutch Alcohol Act and social hygiene rules
Hospitality law with Horecaflix
Serving alcohol comes with rules: age limits, social hygiene and house rules. Horecaflix helps you get those rules into your whole team's heads and keep them there.
What is this about?
The rules around alcohol are set out in the Dutch Alcohol Act (Alcoholwet, formerly the Drank- en Horecawet). Think of the age limit of 18, no serving to intoxicated guests, and the requirement that someone with a Social Hygiene certificate is present or in charge during opening hours.
The municipality and the NVWA inspect for this, including with mystery guests. A single employee who fails to check age can already lead to a fine or consequences for your licence. The tricky part is not the rule itself, but making sure every employee, including new ones, knows and applies it.
